GAP STUDENTS AT SAINT THOMAS CHOIR SCHOOL, NEW YORK
Founded in 1919, the Saint Thomas Choir School houses, nurtures and educates the boys of the Choir of Saint Thomas Church, Fifth Avenue. During their time at the Choir School, the boys experience a remarkable combination of music and education in this Christian community.
The Choir School seeks gap students to serve a period of three months each during the academic year. The gap student provides support to teachers and assists in tasks associated with a boarding school. The gap student lives in a furnished apartment within the school building, located at 202 West 58th Street, between 7th Avenue and Broadway. All meals are provided during term time. Expenses are reimbursed; however, due to employment restrictions, gap students are not paid. The gap student is assigned a day off each week.
Gap students are responsible to the Headmaster and normally work under the direction of the housemothers and duty staff.
Duties assigned to the gap student include:
Assisting the Athletic Director with sports/games/activities.
Assisting individual boys with their academic studies.
Assisting with the supervision of boys’ instrumental practice.
Assisting on duty staff during prep.
Assisting the housemothers in the dormitories.
Assisting at weekends.
Assisting with the supervision of boys at St. Thomas Church during rehearsals, services and concerts.
At the direction of the housemothers, chaperoning boys to appointments,
Upon successful completion of an audition by the Director of Music, the GAP student may be invited to sing in the Choir of St Thomas Church Fifth Avenue.
